Laihau Village is the first village encountered from the direction of the capital of East Sumba Regency when visiting the Lewa Tidahu sub-district. This large area consists of 4 hamlets and an expansion preparation village. Laihau Village geographically has a flat and hilly landscape with a large expanse of rice fields. The total area is 7,000.50 km2. The population are 1,590 people, consisting of 798 men and 792 women.
Most of the people in Laihau Village are farmers, ranchers and gardeners. The village consists of various ethnic backgrounds, religions, and customs, but the harmony of the community is maintained. There is a cadre who has many activities and tasks entrusted to her. As an Elderly cadre, she also has additional duties as a TB and stunting cadre. On the other hand, she has a job as a housewife and a sewing business at home. All things are not a barrier for her to carry out her duties.
She is Mama Sarlota Rohi, a cadre who never feels tired of doing her job. Since becoming a volunteer cadre until the incentives from the village, Sarlota Rohi's commitment has not changed. Even the incentives are not much compared to the work tasks given, so she continues to prioritise her volunteer spirit.
"I am very grateful for the blessings. In my little heart, I always say that service is part of the great reward in heaven. Serving fellow human beings is very noble with the talents ," he explained.
Furthermore, Mama Sarlota received an invitation from the village to attend a training held by CD Bethesda YAKKUM at the Lewa Tidahu District Hall, "I believed that there must be new knowledge in the training, so I attended the activity for three days," she recalled. It was true that during the three-day training, the participants were taught primary health, local food making, and traditional medicine making. "To deepen the gained knowledge, the local food and traditional medicine making were held twice in the basic level," Sarlota said.
Based on the knowledge and skills learnt during the training, Mama Sarlota put them into practice in the village. She practices traditional medicine recipes for lowering high blood pressure (hypertension) for the elderly at the Laihau Village Elderly Posyandu.
"With the availability of medicinal plants in my yard, I made a concoction and gave it to three elderly people. Initially, there were three elderly with hypertension. Based on the results of the Elderly Posyandu, the blood pressure of the three was quite high. I tried to concoct herbal concoctions that had been trained from the CD Bethesda YAKKUM institution on hypertension reduction," he explained further. The herb given to the 3 elderly had a positive impact where their tension decreased based on the results of the nurse's examination. Then, Mama Sarlota gave the potion to the other elderly. There are 26 elderly with hypertension who have drunk dangerous herbs. As a result, only 11 people are still hypertensive. The herb was given and followed by routine control to check their tension, "So far, their tension has been normal," she said.
Elderly who received the concoction said that the herbal medicine was useful in lowering their high blood pressure. Mama Sarlota was happy and satisfied with this achievement. The herbal concoction can be utilised by many people, especially the elderly in Laihau Village, "My hope is that this herbal concoction can be managed well by creating commercial products so that they can sell them around the East Sumba."*
