Herbal and Traditional Medication

Many people in Indonesia cannot afford or otherwise access hospital services, therefore it is important to offer easier and more affordable ways to get health-care.  Acupuncture and acupressure are some of the oldest traditional healing methods in the world and have long been acknowledged by modern medicine for their effectiveness and relatively low occurrence of side-effects.  Recognizing the benefits of these healthcare services, CD Bethesda provides acupuncture and acupressure education and training for health cadres. Of course, to achieve public recognition it is recommended that the trained participants pass the national acu-puncture test, so that they will be legal acupuncturists.  Acupuncturists in villages are able to provide valuable services for their communities.

Another source of medication is the use of traditional herbs as health remedies.  This once common cultural practice has begun to fade over the years and CD Be-thesda has implemented programs to bring it back.  In villages people are being trained to identify plants with medicinal properties, such as ginger and turmeric, and they even grow gardens to cultivate them.
